Racines (BZ), 21 July 2026 – A major renovation project involving the 4*S Hotel Gassenhof in Racines, South Tyrol, has been completed.
The project will integrate with the Gassenloge structure, the expansion introduced in 2019. The project offers contemporary and authentic hospitality, characterized by brighter spaces, natural elements, new sections dedicated to families and wellness, as well as an even stronger connection with the Ridanna Valley environment.
This step concludes the evolutionary journey begun in 2019 with the construction of the Gassenloge wing. Currently, the central building and the new annex establish a stylistic continuity based on the use of wood, large openings, and light, creating a harmonious ensemble that enhances the structure's profile and intimate connection with the mountain setting. Management remains in the hands of brothers Stefan and Manfred Volgger, who continue to guide a hospitality vision marked by stability and progress.
The project is the result of an intense collaboration with local craftsmen and artisans, long-standing partners with whom the owners have long collaborated to blend traditional expertise and modern design. The result is a renovated structure that preserves its roots: more streamlined, bright, and open, yet firmly rooted in the Ridanna Valley.
The rediscovered harmony between material, light and mountain architecture

Following the completion of the work, the main structure adapts to the aesthetic of the Gassenloge. Its clean lines, new façade, large glass surfaces, and wood cladding direct the gaze toward the valley landscape. The interior spaces are more open. The completely redesigned dining rooms open to the outside through floor-to-ceiling windows that enhance natural light while maintaining a welcoming and private atmosphere.
The project also included the complete renovation of twenty suites, now featuring panoramic windows and larger balconies that bring nature into the rooms. Some have private mountain-facing hot tubs, designed as exclusive relaxation corners.
The main building and the Gassenloge thus merge into a single, balanced complex, where volumes, perspectives, and materials create a uniform identity. The sober and essential architecture balances Alpine tradition with contemporary style.
New offerings combining food culture, families, and wellness
The Hotel Gassenhof's renovation also includes the leisure and relaxation areas, expanding the offerings for a variety of guests. The Gassenbadl , the hotel's wellness area, features an 18-meter indoor pool (completely rebuilt) and an outdoor pool designed for families. The new surrounding spaces and the redesigned sauna area further enhance the wellness experience.
The Gassenloge, on the other hand, maintains a more private and regenerating dimension: it has been integrated with a new area reserved exclusively for adults (14+) and, in the outdoor garden space, with a sauna for outdoor events with a capacity of up to 50 people. This space hosts Aufguss rituals led by the facility's sauna masters, transforming them into immersive moments of shared warmth and fragrance.
Children and teenagers have access to a new playroom with a view located in the basement, designed as a contemporary space for young guests to meet and have fun.
Finally, culinary excellence remains a key pillar of the Volgger family's offering. Through the Genusshaus Mount Becher —a taste laboratory encompassing a brewery, roastery, dairy, and distillery—the property continues to showcase local specialties, complementing the hotel's dining experience with an itinerary centered on artisanal products, research, and tastings.
With the completion of these works, the hotel concludes an evolutionary journey begun in recent years and updates its hospitality model while remaining true to its identity: a hospitality developed over time, founded on attention, relationships, and respect for the local area.
